Stupid Firewall - This Post supposed to be posted on 01/11/06

I was discharged from Changi General Hospital this morning. I was admitted for a Sleep Study on 31/10/06 (Halloween) which was brought forward from 22/01/07.

In a sleep Study, a patient's sleep pattern, breathing and oxyen level are being monitored. It is done in a Class A Ward so called the sleep laboratory where the sensors linked to the computer were place on the patient's Head to measure brain waves, Eyes to measure eye movement, Chin to measure muscle tension, Chest to measure heartbeat, Legs to measure limb movements, Chest and Abdomen to measure breathing effort, last but not least, Mouth and Nose to measure air movement. Also a clip on the right index finger to measure the Oxygen level. It is all done by a Sleep Technologist. The purpose is to diagnose whether Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) or other sleep disorder is present eg. snoring, .....

I registered at counter 21 in the A&E Department at 1910 hrs after I had dinner at SiMei. After filling in some forms, I was asked to go to Lobby B, Level 7, Ward 17, Bed 12. It is a single bed room ward. I was lead to my room by the nurse on duty and she proceed with the normal "check-in" procedure. More forms being filled. Then I was given Milo and biscuits and asked to wait for the arrival of the Sleep Technologist at about 2100 hrs. So I watched TV. I felt very lonely and time passes very slowly ..... Soon the Technologist by the name of Ms Anna Goh (quite pretty) came to fix up the sensors on me. She is very polite and explained to me each sensor positioned for. Then I was left alone with lights off to sleep at about 2130 hrs. But I kept tossing around unable to sleep (too nervous due to being wired I think). I think I fell asleep at about 2300 hrs and awoke at about 0130 hrs when I felt very cold, I asked for the nurse to bring up the air-con temperature and she also brought me another blanket. Then I sleep from 0230 hrs to about 0500 hrs. I was awake till 0620 hrs, a Senior Staff Nurse came in to remove all the sensors and I am free. She also issued me all the documents need to be discharged. I got up to wash up, read newspaper, watch TV and waited till 0830 hrs for my breakfast of pork porrige and I left the Ward at 0845 hrs. Had to wait till 09/11/06 for the review at 'R' Clinic to know the result and also the CT Scan result.
